In a previous post I discussed the BlueRay and HD-DVD format war. In it I concluded that Sony could lose, and I would hope that they do loose. Although I still hold that conviction, there's a third side that might be better.
Over a decade ago people were upset with formats changing too quickly. 8 Track, cassette, to CD in 50 years. VHS to DVD in the same time. In my other article, I assumed that one of the new formats would become the standard. Often, parrellels are shown between the current BlueRay/HD-DVD and BetaMax formats. Recently I read Richard Dawkin's the Ancestor's Tale: A Pilgrimage to the Dawn of Life. It's a biology book (currently on sale at Chapter for $10 CAD) which starts with modern humans, and goes back through the ages describing what our common ancestor with other animals would have looked like. The Harper Government has imposed a tax on income trusts, after specifically saying that they would not tax income trusts. This, of course, help people to make the decision to pour their money in to income trusts. Now, all of a sudden, there is a tax on income trusts. So lots of people lost their money who wouldn't have if a) the government kept their word, or b) they said up front they would tax it and the people would have found safer places for their money.
